MARS Dashboard: Smarter Field Tracking for On-Ground Retail Ops

Streamlined dashboard to assign beats, track visits, capture shop feedback, and monitor order targets.

[Project Overview]

MARS is a first-time 0–1 dashboard helping Area Managers plan, track, and analyse daily field operations. It replaces fragmented beat tracking with real-time data on visits, shop feedback, time spent, and order target progress.

[Problem Statement]

Manual beat tracking by phone or Excel gave no real-time view of visits, targets, or shopkeeper feedback. This lack of visibility often caused missed targets, poor accountability, and delays in field issue resolution.

Area Manager

I want a simple, real-time tool to track my staffs visits, review orders placed, and capture shopkeeper feedback easily.

Age: 35

Location: New York City

Tech Proficiency: Moderate

Gender: Male

[Goal]

See all assigned beats, visit status, time logs, and order values in one clear dashboard.

Quickly spot missed visits, delayed shops, or out-of-beat stops without digging through tabs.

Use this info to guide MMs, solve field issues faster, and improve overall target achievement.

[Frustrations]

Wasting hours calling MMs or updating Excel sheets to know visit status and targets.

Wastes time switching tabs and sheets to verify if shop visits actually happened as planned.

Hard to collect and use real shopkeeper feedback to improve local operations.

[Process]
[01 Understanding User Needs]

Mapped daily workflows of Area Managers to uncover gaps in tracking shop visits and orders.

Conducted interviews and feedback sessions with AMs to learn struggles with calls and Excel tracking.

Observed manual processes to find inefficiencies, missed beats, and unclear shopkeeper issue.

[02 Defining Core Requirements ]

Identified clear needs: real-time beats tracking, visit time logs, order targets, and shop feedback.

Prioritised must-have modules — attendance, leads, time tracking, performance, and visit-based feedback.

Matched needs with stakeholder goals to ensure dashboard fit operations scale and daily work.

[03 Designing the Dashboard Flow]

Created clear flows for assigning leads, verifying visits, tracking orders, and noting shopkeeper concerns.

Segmented tasks by priority — high, medium, low — so managers act fast on critical gaps.

Added smart alerts, quick actions, and visual cues to simplify complex daily field operations.

[04 Building & Iterating the Solution ]

Designed wireframes showing dashboards, attendance pages, beat maps, time logs, and comment modules.

Refined layouts to remove clutter, highlight key KPIs, and streamline admin actions for AMs.

Validated design with initial feedback, planned further refinements to automate repetitive field checks.
